Crystal and Merant’s Version Manager don’t play well together

Monday 18 September 2006 @ 6:36 am

One of my customers pointed out to me that you can’t run Merant’s Version Manager and Crystal Reports XI on the same PC without getting a DLL conflict. I am not sure which product is to blame but they use different versions of the same DLL (libeay32.dll) and apparently the different versions are not compatible. There is a solution on BO’s web site but I laughed out loud when I read that it involved writing two batch files to alternately rename the two copies of the DLL. You run one batch file before you run Crystal and you run the other before you run Version Manager. You can’t run both programs at the same time.

My customer said that this also affected v10 but I haven’t confirmed that.
